Mochinut, if you don't know, is a Mochi Donut (and Korean hotdog) chain across the US. Mochi is made from rice flour and has a chewy texture, not sticky like a caramel but light like a really good piece of gum. It is chewy and melty, light with a crisp outside. It's origins are Hawaiian and Japanese, so you know it will be unique, delicious, and not heavy in your stomach. I went to the U Village location and while busy, everything came out really fast. I got a Korean all beef hot dog with sweet potato crispies (its basically a corn dog with rice flour instead of cornmeal, dipped in crispy chunks of sweet potato), a Thai iced tea with boba (I drank it wrong and some teens definitely noticed), and a 3 pack of mochi donuts (chocolate funnel cake, Vietnamese coffee, and churro caramel).
The store itself is very brightly colored and well lit, cheeky mochi puns, and wall art meant to be a backdrop for your selfie. Yes it is all designed with instragram in mind but also donuts are bright, fun and worthy of pictures (clearly, as that is my thing now). The donuts were all delicious, my favorite was the churro, with vietnamese coffee in a close second. The hotdog was really good, especially with a sriracha mayo dipping sauce (@SeattleHotdogs anyone?)
Mochinut is a fun donut, there are some more adventurous flavors like Ube or Black Sesame, and while I never picture donuts and hotdogs together I would definitely come back for both. I'll practice my boba tea skills before I try that again in public though.
