10 - Dough Joy

It's Dough Joy day! The name is fun, the donuts are colorful, the flavors are out of this world! Having lived in West Seattle when they opened I never managed to try a Dough Joy donut, but today I did venture down to their Ballard location. Right at the main corner of Ballard's excitement is the bright and bubbly donut shop, staffed by just as bright and bubbly people. My friend and I spent at least 7 minutes trying to decided what flavors we wanted. The menu rotates weekly, so I felt like I should try only special donuts today, no standard chocolate or glazed. Dough Joy offers vegan options but otherwise all donuts are accessible to a wide variety of food allergens, great that no one has an excuse to not eat a donut with all the advances in donut technology since my early days of eating a grocery store donut while riding in the bottom of the shopping cart.

I ordered an Apple Cider, Everything But The Bagel, and Vanilla Biscoff, while my friend got the Poptart donut. And two coffees with donut holes as coffee stoppers (love that). The Apple Cider was not what you get at the pumpkin patch, this tasted exactly like a real cup of apple cider. Old Fashioned in design none of that grease. The Vanilla Biscoff is a delicious fluffy donut with vanilla icing and a chocolate drizzle topped with crumbled up Biscoff cookies (side plug for Biscoff ice cream bars!) Ok, I love Everything Bagels and that Trader Joe's Everything Bagel seasoning, I put it on my sandwiches. This donut had the seasoning and a dollop of cream cheese in the hole. How the heck would this be any good?! It was. Good lord it was. Seattle adds cream cheese to our hot dogs, why not our donuts! I had to try it and very glad I did. I hope this is on the regular menu so you can try it too.

I want to check out their Capitol Hill and West Seattle locations one day too, Dough Joy will definitely be in my regular rotation of donuterries. Oh yea, great coffee too!
