01 - Top Pot

My inaugural stop just had to be Top Pot Doughnuts, a reliable donut and a Seattle staple. My first thought was their flagship location downtown under the monorail. I had never been to the Wedgwood location and it's hard to ignore a giant donut shaped sign. I first tried to stop by on Saturday afternoon but they closed early having sold out of everything. It's a neighborhood friendly Top Pot (as opposed to some of their more commuter heavy locations), so it shouldn't have been a surprise that 1pm on a Saturday all the donuts were already eaten. Also synagogue services next door end at 11am.

I got the chocolate rainbow cake donut, a maple glazed old fashioned donut, and a small cup of coffee to enjoy on the patio. There are a few tables inside but I had just biked here and needed to cool off. The cake donuts are definitely more moist, or maybe old fashioned are just more crumbly. Both absolutely taste fresh and are not too sweet, though maple glaze is a sweeter icing it was well balanced.

While I was sitting outside 2 little girls stopped in on their way to school to grab a donut each, skipping on their way out. Next came a little boy who had pinched his finger in the car door was crying while his mother tried to comfort him. When they walked out with their donuts he was still holding his finger with tears running down his cheeks. Donuts can solve a lot of problems but not all of them (yet).
